Your AuthorMy name is Emily Wescott and I am the voice behind this portfolio. I am a senior at the University of Maryland. In a few short weeks, I will be receiving my Bachelor's Degree in English Language & Literature with Honors. After graduation, I'll be sticking around to pursue a year long Master's Degree in Education at the UMD Graduate School in hopes of one day being a high school English teacher. As part of my last undergrad semester here at Maryland, I decided to return to my roots and re-enroll in ENGL388V, the scholarship in practice course that allows me to serve as Teaching Assistant in the introductory writing course, ENGL101. This semester, I was invited to serve as the TA for Lyra Hilliard, the coordinator of Blended Learning at the University and director of ENGL388V. This portfolio is meant to reflect my experiences from both my first semester serving as a UTA in Fall 2016 as well as my new experiences from my returning Spring 2018 semester. This website will offer insights into my interactions with the world of teaching writing and teaching argument, as well as my personal growth in practice and pedagogy. A little bit more about me: I'm from Southern New Jersey, both of my parents are educators, and I have long-term plans to pursue Creative Writing or Education Policy, or perhaps both. Aside from being a UTA, I am a campus tour guide with Maryland Images, I play on numerous intramural sports teams, I teach and mentor freshmen University Honors students weekly in their HONR100 course, and I recently finished my undergraduate English Honors Thesis under the direction of distinguished professor and author Dr. Bob Levine.

Her ProjectThe purpose of my electronic portfolio boils down to two things:
1. To organize and share a cumulative summary of lesson plans, journal entries, discussion boards, and notable classroom moments 2. To reflect on my time in the classroom (again) and where I plan to go from here, considering my time to be a full-time teacher is drawing incredibly near In my Portfolio you will find 4 lesson plans, copies of discussion posts and reflections, and journal entries. As part of my return, I created and filed a Digital Learning Artifact, which you can also read and listen to. Additionally, I have enhanced my electronic portfolio by offering readers the chance to read my blog that chronicles my time abroad with a group of educators in Winter 2016. It features photography and personal accounts, both professional and casual, from my time in and out of schools in the Netherlands, France, Germany, and Belgium. Access my blog here. |
